1) It is difficult for Melinda to tell someone what is wrong because she might be scared or ashamed of what happened, so she doesn't want to talk about it.
2) I would not try to help her because she probably wouldn't want any help, and she would just want to be isolated. i can tell because she doesn't like to socialize and she doesn't have friends that are trying to help her, and her family situation at home isn't much better.
3) Yes, it is realistic that students might skip school for personal reasons. They probably don't want to come to school, because that could add more problems to the problems they already have.
