I feel it is difficult for Melinda to tell others is because she may feel people will not understand her. How would you feel about telling somebody something a secret that hurts to think about.
I would not help her because i would not know how. I would not make fun of or bully her, but i would not help her.
Yes, avoiding school due to personal reasons is realistic. With a student being depressed, school sounds like the last thing they want.
